Pokemon Battle Dimension – 04 Sept 2009

The first recording today is a repeat of Pokemon Battle DimensionThe Bells Are Singing.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. The gang come to the aid of a trainer named Francesca who has a spoiled Chingling. Will they be able to adjust the Pokemon’s attitude, or is it beyond help?

Recorded from CITV on Friday 4th September 2009 08:03

After this the recording ends with the start of Storm Hawks.

The second recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionLuxray Vision. This is another one I’ve missed from the current run.

Our heroes are lost, trying to find a Pokemon Centre and come across a spooky looking house.

They approach it, wondering if they can ask to be put up for the night, when suddenly there’s a spotlight.

They’re accused of being the “Bandit Beauties Three” by a young officer, Marble, who has a Luxray. There’s some fighting, and the Luxray doesn’t seem to listen to her much.

Then they meet Matthew, who owns the house and explains what’s going on. “You see, my manor contains a most valuable treasure that is called the Old Charm. I received a threatening letter from the Bandit Beauties Three stating they were planning on stealing it.”

Matthew asks if they’ll help investigate, working with Marble who tells them that her Luxray has been unable to learn electric type powers, and it’s made him a little uncontrollable. e’s already side-eyeing Pikachu.

In a shock twist, the identity of the Bandit Beauties Three is revealed to be none other than Team Rocket! Where do the writers get their wacky ideas?

Disguised as security guards, they announce that Matthew has asked them to move the treasure. Obviously, nobody recognises them, despite one of them being Meowth and Wobbuffet in a long coat.

They almost get away, but their balloon is punctured and they fall in another part of the manor.

There’s secret trapdoors everywhere.

Luxray and Pikachu also fall down the trapdoor, and as they explore, Luxray steps on another hidden switch and almost falls into a pit of spikes. Pikachu grabs it by the tail, and strains to pull it back up. Suddenly, Luxray is friendly.

As they explore more, they’re found by Ash, Marble, Dawn and Brock.

After hearing about Ash and Pikachu being friends, Marble asks Luxray if they can be friends, and after a pause, he cheers up.

Sadly, while celebrating, she steps on another secret switch and the corridor starts closing in on them. This time, she’s able to work with Luxray to find the switch to turn off the walls.

They encounter Team Rocket again, and there’s more fighting.

Luxray is finally able to use electric type moves. Team Rocket blast off again.

Now everything is sorted out, Officer Jenny arrives, annoyed at first that Marble took on the case without asking permission, but when Matthew tells her she was most helpful, Jenny says “I’d say the two of you have turned into a pretty good team.”

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. The gang encounters a budding young detective who is struggling to cope with her angry Luxray.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 03 Sept 2009

The first recording today is a repeat of Pokemon Battle DimensionEnter Galactic.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. Seeing a beautiful meteor shower, Ash and the gang decide to go and investigate. But they are not alone – and the fearsome Team Galactic is about to make itself known!

Recorded from CITV on Thursday 3rd September 2009 08:03

The recording ends with the start of Storm Hawks.

The other recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionNosing Round the Mountain. This is in the later repeat slot, but it’s one that I didn’t have saved. It comes after Bibarel Knaws Best.

Ash and friends meet Alan, and immediately start a Pokemon battle.

He has a Nosepass.

During the fight, Nosepass evolves into Probopass.

It’s not long before Team Rocket turn up and take control of the Probopass.

Ash and Alan try to rescue Probopass, but during their attempts, Team Rocket’s remote control smashes into their control antenna they put on it, and it short circuits.

Which inevitably leads to Team Rocket blasting off again.

It’s then up to Pikachu to short-circuit Probopass to stop it going haywire and attacking everything and everyone.

Alan tries to remove the antenna, but it’s hard to shift.

They end up underwater before Alan is finally able to remove it.

Team Rocket return, still intent on stealing Probopass.

They trap our heroes in an electric net.

It’s up to Alan now, having revived Probopass, to defeat Team Rocket.

And Team Rocket get their second blast-off of the episode.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. As the gang continue their journey toward Solaceon Town, they meet a feisty young trainer named Alan, whose recently evolved Probopass becomes Team Rocket’s latest target.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 01 Sept 2009

First today it’s a repeat of Pokemon Battle DimensionCrossing the Battle Line.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest. Both Dawn and Maylene have lost their fighting spirit after a series of losses. The only way to restore their enthusiasm seems to be an exhibition match.

Recorded from CITV on Tuesday 1st September 2009 08:03

After this the recording ends with the start of Storm Hawks.

The next recording seems to start with a bit of Horrid Henry.

Then it’s a repeat of Pokemon Battle DimensionKeystone Pops.

One rather nice discovery is that this is the first episode of this show that’s actually playing the Battle Dimension theme tune, which is a banger. The Diamond and Pearl one just wasn’t my thing.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. Continuing on their way to Solaceon Town and then Veilstone City, the gang accidently free a mean Spiritomb from the Keystone that had held it captive for 500 years.

Recorded from CITV on Tuesday 1st September 2009 15:28

After this there’s some kind of technical fault, as the screen goes black for a time, then we get this message.

Then we get some Horrid Henry, already in progress. Smooth.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 31 Aug 2009

Today, we’ve skipped over almost all of August. I wonder if all the TV I would have expected to be here might be on a hard drive that just won’t start up, or I just haven’t found yet.

But there’s also a definite change that’s happened here, which requires a bit of Windows Media Centre history.

When it started, WMC used to save its recordings with the file extension DVR-MS. Internally, they were basically MPEG 2, the same transport stream that Digital TV was actually broadcasting.

But it’s 2009, and HD is a reality, so Microsoft had to change their file storage format to cope with the HD recordings, which aren’t in MPEG2, but are, I think, in H264.

So, a new file format was developed, with the extension WTV, which could support both standard definition and high definition broadcasts and recordings. And it looks, from my recording history, like that happened at some point in August 2009. The files in yesterday’s entry were both DVR-MS. Today’s recording is WTV and so are all the recordings after this.

It doesn’t make much difference to the recordings, at least until I start actually recording HD programmes, but it’s a big change.

Sadly, as far as today’s recording goes, it’s a repeat of Pokemon Battle DimensionLost Leader Strategy. You’d think with so many episodes, they wouldn’t be repeating them so soon, but that’s TV for you.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest. In the woods around Veilstone city, Ash encounters the next Gym leader and challenges her to a duel.

After this the recording ends with the start of Storm Hawks.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 07 Aug 2009

The first recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionShield With a Twist.

We join the episode as Ash’s battle with Fantina and her ghost type Pokemon has just started. It’s Buizel vs Gengar. To Fantina’s (and Barry’s) surprise, Ash wins this battle.

Jessie does a performance that has the whole audience looking at her with heart eyes.

Back to Ash and Fantina, and it’s Chimchar vs Mismagius. Ash and Chimchar also win this battle.

Jessie wins her contest and a ribbon.

Next in Ash’s battle, it’s Pikachu v Drifblim. This time Drifblim wins.

Ash still has Buizel, but he’s also beaten.

Finally it’s Chimchar vs Drifblim, and this time Chimchar wins.

Ash wins the Relic badge.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. He travels through the Sinnoh region, where he is challenged in a number of thrilling battles, and strikes up a friendship with a novice trainer named Dawn.

Recorded from CITV on Friday 7th August 2009 08:03

The other recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionAn Elite Meet and Greet!

Dawn introduces her new Buizel to the rest of the Pokemon, but it’s not particularly friendly.

She thinks a battle will make it happier, but after it beats Turtwig quite badly, she wonders what she’s got into.

On TV they see Lucian of the Elite Four in a battle. I find it interesting how these older episodes are quite often episodes that have recently been referenced in the later episodes, like the one with Aaron of the Elite Four.

They’re surprised when the actual Lucian turns up at the Pokemon Centre. They’d mentioned they’d met him in the later episode.

Lucian offers to let Dawn battle with her Buizel. It ignores her commands and does its own thing, and gets beaten by Lucian’s Bronzong.

The defeat leaves Buizel rather sad, and unwilling to do anything. But then Team Rocket arrive and steal it.

But Buizel needed a challenge to get over its defeat, and does its best to escape from their trap.

Lucian helps Buizel and gives Dawn some battling tips.

After defeating Team Rocket, Buizel wants to fight Lucian again, and this time he and Dawn work together.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. He travels through the Sinnoh region, where he is challenged in a number of thrilling battles, and strikes up a friendship with a novice trainer named Dawn.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 06 Aug 2009

The first recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionBarry’s Busting Out All Over.

We’re dropped into the episode again, but the first thing we see is a young Pokemon trainer who looks just as grumpy as Paul did, saying “I’m going to be the strongest trainer in the world, you know? You’ve got that! Later!” I’m guessing this is the eponymous Barry.

As he runs off. he’s left a badge case.

Fantina greets them. Brock goes all heart-eyes as he usually does. Ash asks if they can battle, but she declines, needing to rest her own Pokemon after many battles that day.

Team Rocket have set up a scam Pokeball storage service.

Barry comes to ask for his Pokemon back, so they abandon the pretence and fly off in their balloon.

Fantina arrives, there’s some battling, Team Rocket drop their bag of stolen Pokeballs and Barry gets his back. He uses his Empoleon to fight them.

But when James hears that his Empoleon battled Gardenia and her Cacnea – which used to be his, he gets surprisingly wistful and wants to hear news of his former Pokemon. I’d go for a genuine James redemption arc, but I know this show would never do that.

Ash battles Barry, including Chimchar vs Staraptor.

Roserade vs Gliscor.

And Pikachu vs Empoleon.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. He travels through the Sinnoh region, where he is challenged in a number of thrilling battles, and strikes up a friendship with a novice trainer named Dawn.

Recorded from CITV on Thursday 6th August 2009 08:03

The other recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionBuizel your way out of this!

Ash and friends hear about a powerful Buizel and go fishing to find it.

Their friend Zoey is there, watching Dawn’s Piplup fight the Buizel.

Her Glameow takes on the Buizel too.

Then it’s Pikachu’s turn.

Team Rocket butt in and try to steal the Buizel. Ash and Dawn have to rescue it.

They all join forces against Team Rocket.

Buizel wants another fight, so Dawn and Piplup step up, and after a long fight, Dawn finally is able to capture Buizel in a Pokeball.

They say goodbye to Zoey.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 05 Aug 2009

There’s only one episode today and it’s Pokemon Battle DimensionAiding the Enemy.

Cynthia wins her big battle against Aaron.

Ash’s nemesis Paul is at the gym they’ve stopped at. He’s still grumpy.

Ash challenges Paul to a match, during which, Turtwig evolves into a Grotle.

But Ash doesn’t understand how his abilities have changed, and Grotle’s beaten, and ends up in the Pokemon Centre.

Grotle goes out at night and tries to train, but isn’t having any luck.

Paul’s Torterra finds them and gives a demonstration of how Grotle doesn’t need to dodge, just wait until the perfect moment to attack.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 04 Aug 2009

The first recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionA Trainer and Child Reunion.

Our heroes get a chance to meet one of the Elite Four, Aaron.

When they introduce themselves as friends of Cynthia, who is going to be battling him soon, he invites them to his training centre.

Team Rocket hoover up Aaron’s Pokemon along with Pikachu and others.

But these Pokemon don’t put up with being imprisoned and soon start breaking out.

We learn about Aaron’s tragic backstory, when he told his Pokemon, Wurmple, that it was weak and that’s why they lost a battle. He never saw it again.

They find Team Rocket, who have repaired their balloon and hoovered up the Pokemon again, when it’s suddenly hit with a huge blast from somewhere.

It’s a Beautifly, and of course it’s Aaron’s Wurmple, now evolved.

After a battle to get rid of Team Rocket, Aaron is reunited with his Beautifly, and looks forward to becoming Champion League masters.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. He travels through the Sinnoh region, where he is challenged in a number of thrilling battles, and strikes up a friendship with a novice trainer named Dawn.

The other recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionAn Angry Combeenation!

Our heroes are with Cheryl, and still looking for the Enchanted Honey, which is supposed to be at the Amber Castle. They find a series of caves behind a waterfall, and follow Mothim and Pikachu as they search.

Team Rocket are also searching, and they have a fight against a lot of angry Combee.

Ash and friends finally find the Amber Castle.

Cheryl asks the Vespiquen in charge for a little Enchanted Honey, just to prove she’s been there.

But Team Rocket burst in as usual and say they want all the honey.

They do some battling, and that starts cracking the walls of the Amber Castle.

Ash and friends have to try to rebuild the walls before they collapse.

Vespiquen blasts Team Rocket away.

Cheryl is given some Enchanted Honey as thanks for helping to stop Team Rocket and repair the walls.

Pokemon Battle Dimension – 03 Aug 2009

We’ve entered August 2009, which looks like it has hardly any recordings (or at least, recordings saved). But they’re still all Pokemon.

First today it’s Pokemon Battle DimensionIf the Scarf Fits, Wear It.

The very start is missing so we join our heroes as they’re walking through a forest, and wondering if a figure in the distance might be “the scarf monster”.

They meet their friend Angie from the Summer School.

After dinner (cooked by Brock) Ash asks Angie about what Pokemon she’s training, and whether she’s heard about the mysterious Scarf Monster and she’s suddenly a bit evasive.

Team Rocket are posing as reporters, hoping to find the Scarf Monster and capture it. They find Officer Jenny investigating some strange markings that are apparently saliva.

Ash and friends follow Angie when she leaves, and she shows them the Pokemon she’s been raising – it’s a Lickilicky, and it’s the one that’s been mistaken for the Scarf Monster.

“You see what happened was my parents decided to let me look after this Lickitung for a little while just while they were away on vacation But I guess I over-trained it. I even taught it rollout. The next thing I knew it evolved into a Lickilicky”

She explains that the Lickilicky doesn’t like being in a Pokeball, so she tries to hide it in a cave, and she inflates the collar around its neck so it floats and she can carry it around like a balloon.

Jessie is posing as a reporter and of course they don’t recognise her.

Team Rocket try to capture the Lickilicky, and there’s a big fight.

Angie’s parents return home, and she’s in trouble for evolving the Lickitung.

But when the Lickitung’s trainer arrives, he’s delighted to find his pokemon evolved into Lickilicky.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. He travels through the Sinnoh region, where he is challenged in a number of thrilling battles, and strikes up a friendship with a novice trainer named Dawn.

Recorded from CITV on Monday 3rd August 2009 08:03

The second recording today is Pokemon Battle DimensionThe Grass-Type is Always Greener!

Ash and friends are with Cheryl, who has evolved a Mothim, and they’re searching for enchanted honey. She gets a bit caught up at one point.

They meet another trainer, Gardenia, when Mothim follows the scent of a Gloom thinking it’s honey.

Gardenia has a Cherubi. She wins the fight with her own Turtwig.

Team Rocket were attacked by Beedrill while also looking for the enchanted honey, so when they do their usual Team Rocket “In your face” speech, it’s hard to hear under the bandages.

Unexpectedly, Gardenia wants to trade for James’ Carnavine. But he doesn’t want to.

They grab Cheryl’s Mothim.

After Team Rocket are defeated, Gardenia gets a message and has to leave to deal with an emergency.

They spot a Combee, so they think the Enchanted Honey must be close by.

Media Centre Description: Ash continues his quest to become the greatest Pokemon trainer ever. He travels through the Sinnoh region, where he is challenged in a number of thrilling battles, and strikes up a friendship with a novice trainer named Dawn.
