Robin Hood – Primeval – Mumbai Calling – 06 Jun 2009

The first recording today starts with the end of Outtake TV.

There’s a trail for Totally Saturday.

Then it’s Robin HoodBad Blood.

Robin and Gisborne encounter each other in the forest, and start a bit of a fight, but they’re both shot with sleep darts, and tied up by a hooded stranger.

The stranger seems to know both men, and about their childhood. He proceeds to talk about the time that both their parents died, so this is mostly a flashback episode. He starts by talking about Guy’s mother Ghislaine (pronounced Giz-lane all the time which slightly annoys me) played by Sophie Winkleman, and Robin’s father Malcolm, played by Dean Lennox Kelly, and they appear to be having an affair.

At a celebration of the return of men from the Crusades, with her children Guy and Isabella, talking about how her husband has not returned from the fighting, the local bailiff asks who is going to be the new Lord of the Manor, she announces that she will be Lady of the manor.

Robin and Guy already have some rivalry going, with Robin boasting that he’s the best shot in the village, and wanting to fire the arrow to light the fireworks that are being set up for the celebration, although his father has told him he can’t.

He causes a disaster by showing off. “I’m going to show him he was wrong. I can hit that lantern with this. Watch.” The Catherine Wheel gets ignited and falls on one of the villagers, almost killing him. Robin pretends it wasn’t him and lets Guy take the blame.

The bailiff tries to get a lynch mob going, against Locksley’s objections, but everything is interrupted by the sudden and surprising appearance in town of Guy’s father, Roger of Gisborne, who did not die.

Robin’s dad gives him some advice. “Father… it was me that shot the arrow. I was showing off with your bow.” “Robin… …one day you will be lord of Locksley, lord of my lands. You must grow up and learn to take responsibility when you do something wrong. You could be the best shot in England. You shouldn’t stand by and let something terrible happen because you were too scared to do the right thing.”

Locksley and Ghislaine are still meeting secretly, and she reveals that she’s pregnant with his child. Locksley also knows that Sir Roger is a leper, which, if it was revealed, would lead to him being banished from the village.

So it’s no surprise when the angry mob arrive and do banish him. He asks Locksley “Care for her. Care for them all.”

Ghislaine goes into sudden labour, and has their baby. “He was early… but strong.” That’s a very big premature baby. The baby is taken away “to a safe place until the parents could marry and reclaim him.”

Roger returns to his house to see his family. When Locksley comes too, Guy waves a lit torch at him, and starts a fire.

Locksley and Gisborne fight.

During the fight, Locksley knocks down Ghislaine, killing her. Gisborne tells Locksley to leave, so he can be with his wife in his final moments, as the house burns around them.

The hooded man reveals his identity – it’s Robin’s father Malcolm. Who did not die.

He returns to the story, with the bailiff declaring that he’s now Lord of the Manor. “The duty falls to me. Right, let’s start as we mean to go on, shall we? Tax collection.”

Robin prays for guidance at his mother’s grave. There’s a golden light and he hears his father’s words. “You shouldn’t stand by and let something terrible happen because you were too scared to do the right thing.” His father’s bow is by the grave, which he takes. He returns to the village where the bailiff is already roughing people up. Robin looses a few arrows to scare off his men. When the bailiff threatens him, he aims at him. “My father never struck me. Neither will you. These are my people and I will care for them as my father intended. I am lord of the manor now.”

Locksley tells Robin and Guy they have to put their differences aside to save their brother, who’s sentenced to hang at York jail.

Robin promises his father he’ll save their brother. They hug, then Robin falls over, asleep, and Locksley drugs Gisborne too, because he’s dying and isn’t staying around. I suspect they could only afford the actor for one episode.

Media Centre Description: Drama retelling the classic legend. A mysterious figure forces Robin and Gisborne to hear the story of their past. The truth about their parents is exposed and a huge revelation rocks them both to the core. As the strange figure shows his face, Robin and Gisborne know their lives will never be the same again.

After this there’s a trail for The Apprentice final.

Then the recording ends with the start of Totally Saturday, a show which I do not remember at all. Not a single thing.

The next recording is another episode of Primeval – The Chase Continues.

This is mostly a bit of a runaround. Danny, Abby and Connor go through the anomaly at the racetrack to find Helen, while Becker and Sarah head to Christine Johnson’s headquarters, where the detector shows the anomaly has reopened. The building is rather swarming with giant insects.

In the destroyed future, Abby makes a discovery – the building there is the ARC. Or an ARC.

They find Helen. She tasers Danny and tells them that she’s going to save the world. She’s got the artefact, and can generate a map of every anomaly ever. She programs her anomaly generating device from the map, then smashes the artefact, opens an anomaly and leaves them there.

Connor has worked out why 333 was in Helen’s notes so much. “The Rift Valley in Africa, four million years ago. It’s the Cradle of Civilization site. 333 is where they found the remains of the so-called first family of hominids. A group of 30 early humans who all died at the same time. No one ever knew how.” “So Helen has gone to visit the ape man?!” “No. She’s gone to kill the first human, to stop our evolution in its tracks. She’s gonna wipe us all out.”

Connor manages to get the machine working again, and they are able to download the data into another of the control devices like the one Helen has, and they escape from the future, and predators, back into the past.

But there are velociraptors to contend with, and Connor manages to injure himself when they use a stun grenade to deal with some.

Abby tells Danny to find Helen and stop her, so he follows her and finds the anomaly she used to get to the Rift Valley.

Helen finds the Hominids she wants to kill.

She poisons their water source.

Danny comes by a little later and finds them all dying.

Helen gloats. “You’re too late, Danny. It’s already begun. But thanks. You know, if you hadn’t take me to the ARC, I never would have got this far.” “You killed them.” “Humanity is a stain upon the face of the planet. And when we’re gone, other species would be able to develop in peace. There will be no war, no pollution. No predators.” I really hate this kind of thinking. Maybe I’m just speciesist. But I’ve watched nature documentaries, and some animals are fucking horrible.

Helen’s gloat doesn’t last long, as a velociraptor which came through the anomaly finds her and jumps her, knocking them both off the high cliff she was standing on, and killing them both. I wonder how archaeologists are going to explain that in the fossil record.

Connor and Abby rest a while.

Danny has been returning to the anomaly when he comes across more of the proto-human Hominids, all perfectly healthy. So humanity will survive. Which might not be true of Danny, who finds the anomaly, only for it to close as he approaches it.

And that’s the end of the series. Quite a cliffhanger.

Media Centre Description: Sarah and Becker investigate when the anomaly at Johnson’s headquarters re-opens. Meanwhile the rest of the team attempt to stop Helen at all costs, and must endure a harrowing journey through time via several anomalies, battling future predators, raptors and pterosaurs. And an encounter with the earliest humans has life-changing consequences for one of the group.

The recording ends with the start of All Star Mr & Mrs.

The final recording today starts with the end of All Star Mr & Mrs.

Then it’s another episode of Mumbai CallingHome Comforts.

Kenny endures a scary taxi driver, who used to be a doctor before he was struck off for leaving a shot glass in a man’s colon.

The company are starting a traffic assistance service, using Routesat software.

Terri has to move out of her hotel, and because of a local festival, there’s nowhere else to move in to, so Dev offers to put her up where he lives. Unfortunately, he was hoping she’d turn him down, because they don’t really have room, as his family is very large.

There really isn’t much room.

Kenny is jealous, thinking that the reason Terri and Dev are both tired is because they were sleeping together (or rather not sleeping).

The traffic assistance service is having problems. A man driving a hearse ends up somehow in the middle of Woburn Safari Park.

Dev and Terri aren’t getting on. After she told his family she was his boss, they’ve been laughing at him for having a woman as a boss.

Kenny drops in to join them for dinner. Terri says she thinks Dev’s mother is a terrible cook. Dev is affronted, and tells her to get out. “You throw me out then you’re fired.” “No woman tells me what to do. I’d rather have my pride than your stinking job. I quit.” Then Kenny intercedes. “You can’t sack Dev. I sack you. Get out!” This rather improves Dev’s family’s opinion of him.

They have another difficult call to the traffic assistance line. A car is on the hard shoulder, and there’s a woman in labour. So they get the taxi driver in to talk her through the birth.

Media Centre Description: Sitcom set in a call centre in India. Kenny is launching a new service for drivers in the UK, but when things fail to go smoothly he is forced to take inspiration from an unusual source. Meanwhile, Dev offers Terri accommodation at his house, but he is ridiculed by his family when they find out that she is his boss. Kenny is surprised to find himself jealous of Terri and Dev’s new living arrangements.
