Today’s recording starts with the end of Versailles Stories.
There’s a trailer for the Proms, which seems redundant since the programme tonight is Proms on Four 2006. Charles Hazlewood introduces highlights from a couple of concerts.
First, it’s violinist Maxim Vengerov, who plays Mozart’s fourth violin concerto with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra. This is an orchestra of players who are all under 30.
Francois-Frederic Guy plays Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G.
This recording has quite a few glitches, which happened occasionally, often due to bad weather. I hope it’s not a sign of things to come.
The final piece is Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Esa-Pekka Salonen conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra.
