Saxondale – 24 Jul 2006

Today’s recording starts with the end of The Catherine Tate Show.

There’s this rather magnificent trailer for Dragon’s Den. I can’t work out if the music is just an edited version of the Lord of the Rings music, or just a pastiche.

There’s also a trailer for Shiny Shiny Bright New Hole in my Heart starring Sally Hawkins.

And this trailer for Rob Brydon’s Anually Retentive does make me want to watch it, despite the presence of Russell Brand. I’ve only got one episode, though, from August.

Then, the next episode of Saxondale. Tommy is upset at being clamped outside the headquarters of Organosolve, a big corporate pest control and one of his competitors. It’s run by Ben Miller.

He discusses audio equipment with the saleman in a hi-fi shop, played by Andrew O’Neill (credited here as Andrew O’Neil).

Tommy suspects that something shady is going on. They keep treating places for flea infestations, but the fleas keep coming back. Raymond noticed that one of their workers had a small tub with powder in it, and Tommy thinks they must be laying down flea eggs. But when he confronts the worker (played by Tony Way) he tells him it’s his glucose powder, for his diabetes.

Tommy and Raymond do some target practice.

Tommy works out that the affected sites don’t have fleas at all, it’s static electricity causing women wearing nylon tights to attract carpet hairs, which irritate their legs and look like flea bites. He confronts Ben Miller about it, and shows that the ‘toxic’ spray they use on the carpets is just water to damp down the static.

Media Centre Description: Comedy series about an ex-roadie now running a pest control business in suburbia.

After this, there’s a trailer for Excuse My French. A new trailer for Sorted.

There’s also a trailer for Athletics, and one for Restoration Village.

Plus, a trailer for Trawlermen.

Then, there’s the start of Newsnight leading with the conflict in the Middle East.
