The Simpsons – Prime Suspect – tape 1992

First on this tape, an episode of The Simpsons, Two Dozen and One Greyhounds. Santa’s Little Helper is in love.

This episode contains the brilliant ‘See My Vest’ musical number.

After this, recording continues for a time into the start of Beverly Hills 90210

Then recording switches to LWT and Prime Suspect: Inner Circles. A man is found dead in a house which is being robbed by a couple of young tearaways.

Tennison is now a Superintendant, and is brought in to help out with the case, obviously annoying the officer who was in charge. I do get frustrated how this show is only ever about Tennison not being supported because she’s a woman, and not simply about her competence at solving crimes. It’s OK for the first story, but you’d think by now she’d have some respect.

Mark Lawrenson plays a boorish man who’s under some kind of investigation.

Anthony Daniels pops up as a pathologist.

Sophie Stanton plays the other woman on the team, DS Cromwell. Tennison starts off suspicious, since she’s sleeping with the DCI who was in charge before Tennison came in. They do appear to be starting to bond, though.

I have to say, all throughout, this is feeling more like an Inspector Morse story than Prime Suspect. Even Stephen Warbeck’s music is very Morsey. And the story, about posh, upper middle class people scheming and murdering over the possibility that affordable housing might be built near them seems more a Morse plot.

The recording stops after this programme. Nothing else on the tape bar the ads.

There’s a couple of ads I want to call out. First, there’s this ad for Eurostar which I think is proof that every single person working in advertising in the 90s was totally off their heads on drugs.

And this advert which I can only presume is a Tango advert, unless the Sprout Marketing Board have upped their game.
