Harry Enfield & Chums – tape 2828

This tape opens with the end of Newsroom South East. There’s a story about a local muslim community who want the local bingo hall to take down its ‘Mecca’ sign, as they feel it’s inappropriate to use the name of Islam’s holiest city with gambling, which is forbidden in Islam. Given that the sign was only erected in the last year, after a name change from ‘Top Rank’, I think they’ve got a point – that it very insensitive.

I wonder if the owners of the bingo hall, Mecca Leisure, were unhappy about reaching an agreement to replace the sign. This is their entire statement.

There’s weather from John Kettley, a trailer for The Ambassador, and for Parkinson in which he’s rather proud of the way he flirts with his guests.
