Doctor Who – tape 1536

More Pertwee, and this time it’s Frontier in Space. This is the story that I keep thinking Colony in Space is. I should know the story, because I had the Target novelisation, but it’s all a bit hazy.

The Tardis almost collides with an Earth spaceship, but at the last minute materialises inside it.

The Earth is in conflict with the Draconians. I always liked the Draconian alien design. Although the TV version never quite matches up to the version on the front of the novelisation.

The Earthmen think that the Draconians have been attacking their ships, but there’s some kind of hallucinatory device that’s making them think that, when in fact it’s Ogrons, who are working for someone else.

The much vaunted Mind Probe looks like a Werther’s Original blu-tacked to a sink tidy.

The Doctor even gets sentenced and sent to a penal colony, where they have to drink from sippy cups, and his fellow prisoner is Jeremy Corbyn.

We missed him from the previous tape, but the Earth Commissioner turns up, and it’s The Master.

He’s the one who wants to incite war between Earth and Draconia, but his reasons aren’t clear. Then he captures Jo, and uses her as bait in a trap to lure the Doctor to a planet.

This is where he reveals his co-conspirators – the Daleks.

This whole story ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, as the Doctor and Jo escape the Master, and the Doctor sends a telepathic message to the Timelords. The next story is Planet of the Daleks, which we’ve looked at before (from a BBC1 showing).
