Ellen – Friends – Frasier – Whose Line Is It Anyway? – Beastly Behaviour – tape 2044

Some comedy from Channel4, when Channel 4 had comedy. First, Ellen, and Ellen takes ballet classes to fulfill a childhood dream.

Ellen The Shrub

Next, Friends, and The One with the Boobies. Fisher Stevens appears as Phoebe’s boyfriend, who’s a psychiatrist.

Rachel is mortified when Chandler accidentally sees her breasts. Joey discovers that his father (Robert Costanzo) is cheating on his mother.

Then his father’s girlfriend turn up, and Joey tells him he has to make it right.

Then his mother turns up, played by Brenda Vaccaro, annoyed that Joey is interfering.

Next, and episode of FrasierFlour Child. Stuck in a cab, there’s a surprise when the cab driver, Charlayne Woodard, goes into labour.

More Ellen Next with Guns ‘n Ellen. Ellen’s apartment is burgled. So she invites a policeman to give them self defence training.

In The One With The Candy Hearts, Chandler goes on a blind double date with Joey, and ends up with Janice.

Maggie Wheeler and Matthew Perry

Then, another Frasier, Duke’s, We Hardly Knew Ye. Martin invites his sones for a beer at Duke’s, his favourite bar, something he has never done before. There’s a nice intertitle joke.

Where Nobody Knows Their Names

Frasier and Niles go, but are horrified to find out that the bar is due to close because of a new Mini-mall, in which they had recently invested.

After this, an episode of Whose Line is it Anway featuring Colin Mochrie

and Tony Slattery – it’s been a long time since we’ve had to wheel out the Slatterywatch klaxon.

After this, there’s a very short animation, an ‘amusing’ look at the sexual cycle of porcupines called Beastly Behaviour.

Then, the start of a film, Howling VI The Freaks, which I think I’ve looked at before. It still boggles me that this franchise had as many sequels as it did, and not a single one was remotely as good as Joe Dante’s original. The tape ends during this.

  1. Ellen: Guns ‘n’ Ellen/Friends:The One with the Candy Hearts/Frasier: Duke’s…/Whose Line…/Beastly Behaviour/Howling VI – The Freaks – 28/07/1995.

  2. One day I’ll dig out the copy of the Radio Times from the summer of 1995 which talks about C4’s Friday night comedy line-up including the successful Ellen and Frasier but “Friends is proving less popular with British audiences”.
