Cheers – Just For Laughs Special – tape 1360

Just before the start of the first programme is a trailer for Nurses, one of Susan Harris’ sitcoms that I don’t remember well.

Then, Cheers, with And Coachie Makes Three. Coach is intruding on Sam and Diane’s romantic life. So they try to set him up with someone.

Charming conversation

After this episode, there’s the start of the afore-mentioned Nurses, before recording switches to Just For Laughs, from the Montreal Comedy Festival, featuring hosting by Ben Elton.

Next it’s Penn & Teller performing their wonderful Lift Off of Love routine.

Next it’s Eddie Izzard, already doing comedy in French.

Ending with Ben Elton’s stand-up set about tampons.

After this, another episode of Cheers. In Cliff’s Rocky Moment Cliff backs down from a fight, then spends the rest of the episode trying to prove he’s not a coward.

After this, recording stops, and underneath there’s a bit of The Secret Policeman’s Third Ball before the tape ends.

  1. That Reeves and Mortimer performance at Just For Laughs was famous for the half dozen British people in the audience wetting themselves with laughter and the rest of the audience sitting there in stunned silence, and indeed there was so little audience reaction you could hear individual responses – they were doing their Lucky Carpet song and they could hear someone say “That carpet is too big!”. And they’d gone on straight after Harry and Paul doing Smashie and Nicey, which is not a subject matter that travels very well, which didn’t help.
