Kolchak The Night Stalker – tape 562

First on the tape (after a curtailed opening title from Film Club) is Kolchak The Night Stalker and the episode The Vampire, presented as part of the Mystery Train strand. A woman is transformed into a vampire in Las Vegas and continues to feed until Kolchak tracks her down.

“Just what paper do you work for?” “Manchester Guardian.”

Next episode is The Energy Eater. A brand new hospital is being plagued by technical problems. Some force is attacking electrical equipment and killing patients. At one point it attacks an X-Ray machine, so Kolchak has all the X-Ray plates developed and puts them together like a jigsaw.

The next episode is They Have Been, They Are, They Will Be…. Animals are escaping from the zoo. A ton of lead ingots disappears before the eyes of the police and Kolchak. He spends most of the episode worrying about the sports game he’s got tickets for. And it all ends up being aliens.

This is followed by an animation about a dentist’s appointment – An Inside Job – by Aidan Hickey.

After this, The Brain Eaters starts, but shortly after that, recording switches to an episode of Ring My Bell, the strange Laurie Pike hosted phone in show. There’s a short glimpse of Al Sharpton talking to someone, when the recording stops.

Underneath there’s another black and white movie, presumably Dragstrip Girl, the movie from last week’s Mystery Train. This is followed by an animation, His Wife is a Hen. The tape ends during this.

  1. I never missed an episode of Mystery Train, perfect late night viewing. The horror host is more of an American thing that never really caught on here, but Richard O’Brien was a good one, didn’t he used to turn into a skeleton at the end of every episode? Wonder where that station was?
