Captain Scarlet – Home Improvement – Roseanne – Jo Brand Through the Cakehole – tape 1825

Here’s a mixed bag of a tape. Starting with the end of an old-style Top Gear, with Quentin Wilson touting the 0898 numbers that people used before the internet.

There’s a trailer for The Net – the BBC’s boring replacement for Micro Live.

Then, an episode of Captain ScarletIn Inferno the Mysterons promise to attack a ‘desalinization’ plant.

Captains Blue and Scarlet travel to an ancient Aztec city. “Well, this is really something.” “Yes, it’s been here for over 800 years.”

Naturally, by the end of the episode, they’ve bombed it to Kingdom Come. And that still doesn’t stop the Mysterons carrying out their plan. It’s an utter failure. I guess this was an attempt to make this show seem a little more realistic than Thunderbirds, but it’s anti-drama in the end.

Captain Scarlet should always win.

There’s a trailer for The Team They Wouldn’t Play, with the South African cricket team being all “Boo Hoo why can’t we play international cricket just because we’re monstrous racists?”

Then recording switches to Channel 4 and the end of an episode of Garden Club.

Then there’s an episode of Home Improvement, the sitcom “based on the stand up comedy of Tim Allen”

Next, Roseanne, guest starring Sandra Bernhard. Roseanne runs a diner with Martin Mull. DJ takes the car and runs it into a ditch for a dare. Roseanne gets so angry she smacks him, which isn’t a good thing since her father was so abusive to her. So she has to talk it over. It’s a very touchy feely episode.

Then, Jo Brand Through the Cakehole. Jim Sweeney pops up as Sigmund Freud.

And I’ve fairly sure that’s Andy Linden, John The Watch off of Count Arthur Strong.

After this, there’s a trailer for The Kids in the Hall.

Then, recording continues with Eurotrash. This one features Lily Savage. And there’s a segment about the hotel in which Johnny Logan stayed when he won Eurovision. Gripping.

More dreary Friday Night filler after this, with Beavis and Butthead. The tape runs out during this.
